Steps Preparation Strategy – CDS Exam – GK Paper
Step
1:
Go through the syllabus of GK paper given in the
notification. As per the previous notification, syllabus for GK Paper is
mentioned as below
General Knowledge including knowledge of current
events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their
scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a
special study of any scientific subject. The paper will also include questions
on History of India and Geography of a nature which candidate should be able to
answer without special study.
Step
2:
Analyze the previous question papers of last 4 to
5 years. As this exam takes place twice every year, you need to analyse 8 to 10
question papers.
By analysing the previous question papers will
help you understand the following:
§ Nature
of questions – Direct/ Factual based/ Analytical type/ 2 or 3 statement based
§ Priority
of Subjects
§ What
to focus while reading a particular subject
Step
3:
List the subjects based on the priority. Here the
priority indicates the more number of questions asked in a particular subject.
By going through the past year papers, here I can
order the subjects in the following order
1. General Science (Biology/ Chemistry/ Physics)
2. History
3. Geography
4. Polity & Constitution
5. Economy
6. Current Affairs and associated GK
7. Defence related
8. Environment based

Step
4:
General Science, History and Geography constitutes 60 % of the question paper. Try to complete these subjects initially.
Step
5:
Take the next 2 subjects in order. Here in
this case it will be Indian constitution & polity and Economy. While
reading these 2 subjects simultaneously revise the top 3 subjects.
Step
6:
Allot a specific time daily or allot a complete 7
to 10 days for current affairs of past 8 to 12 months. While reading current
affairs try to focus on the associated GK issue.
Step
7:
As this exam is a defence services exam you
should allot 1 to 3 days to gain basic knowledge on our defence services that
include Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force
Step
8:
Start practicing daily mock tests 3 weeks before
the actual exam.
Important Step: Revision is the key to excel in the exam. So keep revising on daily basis. This is the most important step in the preparation.
