                       NATIONAL HEALTH POLICY (NHP) of 2002:
  •           It was evolved from the National Health Policy of 1983.
  •          Guidance was provided by the Bhore committee Report (1946) where in the main underlying principles for future health development of the country, inter alia, included that “No Individual should fail to secure adequate medical care because of inablility to pay for it.
  •          The draft new National Health Policy, 2015 has been placed in public domain for wider stakeholder consultations.

v                                                                                                NATIONAL  HEALTH MISSION:

It encompasses two sub missions
1)      National Rural Health Mission
2)      National Urban Health Mission

The main programmatic components are
1)      Health system strengthening
2)      Reproductive – Maternal – Neonatal – Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCH+A)
3)      Communicable and Non Communicable diseases.
v                            

                                           ASHA:

- Accredited Social Health Activists
- They serve as facilitators, mobilizers and providers of community level care.
- ASHA are being selected in urban areas since 2013.

v                                                ROGI KALYAN SAMITI:

·         This committee is a registered society whose members act as trustee to manage the affairs of the hospital.

v                                         JANANI SURAKSHA YOJANA:

·         Cash assistance is provided to eligible pregnant women for giving birth in a Government Health facility.

v                                      JANANI SHISHU SURAKSHA KARYAKRAM (JSSK):

· Launched in June 1, 2011
- This scheme includes free drugs & consumables, free diagnostics, free diet during stay in the health institutions, free provisions of blood, free transport from home to health institution.

  -   Dial 108 is predominantly and emergency response system, primarily designed to attend to patients of critical care, trauma and accident victims etc

 Dial 102 services essentially consist of basic patient transport aims the cater the needs of pregnant women and children.

 Indian Newborn Action Plan (INAD):
ü  Launched on September 18, 2014
ü  It outlines a targeted strategy for accelerating the reduction of preventable newborn deaths and still births in the country.

- Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK):
ü  Launched in 2013
ü  It provides for child Health screening and Early intervention services through early detection and management of the four D”s i.e.
1)      Defects at birth
2)      Diseases
3)      Deficiencies

4)      Development Delays


Rashtriya Kishore Swasthya Karyakram:

  • Launched in 2014
  • It focuses on the adolescent health.


National Urban Health Mission:

  • It was approved in 2013
  • The centre-state funding pattern for this mission is 75:25. But in case of north eastern states including Sikkim, J&K, Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand for the centre-state funding patternis 90:10.


National Commission on Population
  • It was constituted in 2000.
  • It review, monitors and gives directions for the implementation of the National Population policy (NPP) 2000.
  • The P.M is the chairperson of the NCP.
  • As per NCP decisions there should be Annual Health survey (AHS) of all districts which could be published annually.
  • The National population stabilization fund was constituted under the National commission on population. Later this fund was transferred to the Department of Health and family welfare and was renamed as Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh (JSK).

                    KGMU (King George Medical University) – Lucknow
                    KIPM (King Institute of preventive Medicine) – Chennai
                    RMPC ( Regional Medical Research Center) – Dibrugarh

                  -  Pharmacopoeial Laboratoryfor Indian Medicine (PLIM)

  • It is a subordinate office under Ministry of AYUSH located at Ghaziabad.
  • It was established in the year of 1970.
  • Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratory was set up at Ghaziabad.


                   - Indian Medicine Pharmaceutical corporation (IMPCL)

  • It was incorporated in the year 1978.
  • It comes under the administrative control of the ministry of AYUSH.
  • It is a Government of India Enterprisor
  • It is Schedule “MiniRatna Category-II, Central Public sector undertaking.

- Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

  • It was set up in 1911 as Indian Research Fund Association (IRFA)
  • It was redesignated in 1949 as ICMR
  • Its specific objective is sponsoring and coordinating medical research in the country
  • It has launched seven affordable technologies

1)      Vaccine for Japanese Encephalitis
2)      Test for molecular diagnosis of Thallassemia
3)      Magnivisualizer for cervical cancer screening
4)      Strips and detection system for Disbetes
5)      Test for detection of Pathogenic bacteria in food
6)      Technologies for Vitamin A and Ferritin estimations
7)      Development of non-invasive diagnosis procedure for Visceral Leishmaniasis from urine and sputum samples

- Regional Leprosy Training and Research Institute (RLTRI), Raipur.
- ICMR in association with the Department of science & Technology had established Asia”s first Biosafety Level-4 laboratory at NIV, pune.

                 - Central council of Indian Medicine

  • It is a statutory body constituted under the Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970.
  • It is in New Delhi


          - Central council of Homeopathy

  • It is located in New Delhi
  • It is a statutory body constituted under the provisions of the Homeopathy Central Council Act, 1973.
  • There are five apex research councils

1.       Central council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences
2.       Central council for research in Siddha
3.       Central council for research in Unani Medicine
4.       Central council for research in Homeopathy
5.       Central council for research in Yoga & Naturopathy

  • National  Institute of Ayurveda – Jaipur
  • National Institute of Homeopathy – Kolkota
  • National Institute of Unani Medicine – Bengaluru
  • National Institute of Siddha – Chennai
  • National Institute of Naturopathy – Pune
  • Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth – Delhi.
  • Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga – Delhi
  • Institute for Post Graduate teaching and Research in Ayurveda – Jamnagar.

- Three new Institute are being established
1)      All India Institute of Ayurveda – Delhi
2)      North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homeopathy – Shillong
3)      North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine – Passighat

- National Medicinal Plants Board
  • Established in 2000
  • It is presently implementing two schemes namely

1)      Central sector scheme for Conservation Development and Sustainable management of medicinal plants.
2)      National mission on medicinal plants
